Indigenous Engagement

We create meaningful opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

OUR RECONCILIATION VISION

Our vision is to continue to create opportunities within our business and sector that will lead to positive economic, social and education outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities across Australia. We value, respect and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, history and cultures and are committed to reconciliation. Throughout our reconciliation journey, we continually strive to influence organisational and industry-wide cultural change and encourage continued learning, understanding and sharing through respectful exchange. Our vision for reconciliation is articulated through our commitment to:

Building strong and respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and businesses;

Providing access to education and training for our staff to enhance their understanding and engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and history;

Designing opportunities that will increase the participation of, and ensure positive outcomes for, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and businesses in our organisation;

Collaborating with our industry partners to create lasting and meaningful change through shared industry-wide commitments;

Contributing to the national reconciliation dialogue and advocating for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

RECONCILIATION ACTION PLAN (RAP)

Our organisation has developed a Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2023-2026 to ensure we can continue our journey with a strong focus on historical acceptance; race relations; equality and equity; institutional integrity and unity. We would like to educate and ensure that our employees have a safe space to learn and ask questions around First Nations histories and past, how we can build on First Nations knowledges whilst ensuring we offer opportunities for the future. We will continue our commitment to involve broader community engagement ensuring growth in employment pathways and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples procurement spend across our national contracts. Everyday our role is to bring communities together for strategic and commercial growth.

BGIS SUPPORTS ULURU STATEMENT FROM THE HEART

BGIS is proud to support the Uluru Statement from the Heart, an open letter to all Australians that calls for the establishment of a First Nations Voice in the Constitution and a Makarrata Commission on agreement-making and truth-telling between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and governments. As Innovate RAP partners, we have a responsibility to demonstrate leadership in this important national conversation. We call upon our industry peers and fellow Australians to join us in voicing support for the Uluru Statement from the Heart. In the spirit of reconciliation, we look forward to continuing to work with Indigenous-owned businesses and not-for-profits, and standing with all Australians to achieve the aims of the Uluru Statement from the Heart.
